Report on Construction Accident

Bristol, RI._ Kristina Guttuso reports on a beam falling from a crane on the construction site at Roger Williams University. (THIS IS A FICTIONAL REPORT!!!)

For our first report as a team we were sent out to develop a news story based on the fictional story of a beam falling from a crane. There is currently construction on the Roger Williams University campus and this is real footage, however the story itself is fake.

Editing, Day 2

Today in class we continued our editing process from last week when Kristina reported. Unfortunately, Libby's hardwork editing was lost so we had to start over. Libby is getting more familiar with Final Cut Pro, (thankfully, Kristina and I will be able to take a backseat because we are helpless with the program!) It should be funny to see how Kristina's reporting skills turn out because she claims it is one of her worst skills.

We're also throwing ideas around for our next assignment. Stayed tuned for more updates on how the story turns out and possibly some behind the scenes footage!

Why am I interested in Digitial Journalism???

Last semester I studied abroad in Florence, Italy and I took a photography class. I wasn't sure how the class would go for me and had a lot of trouble with it at the beginning of the semester but by the end I was absolutely loving it! It opened me up to a whole new artistic realm but it also made me think about applying something I never thought I would use again to my Communications major here at Roger Williams.

I had already taken a class with Professor Scully during the fall semester of my junior year and it turned out to be one of my favorite classes. The topic, law and ethics of communications was really interesting to me, so when I saw he would be teaching a special topics class this semester, I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to try something new.

So far, the electronic portion of the class (using a camera, final cut-pro, and even blogging) have been a bit challenging for me but I think I'm getting it. I'm really excited, though, that this class allows each of us to use our strengths to benefit our group work and the videos or news stories we publish. I'm definitely not savvy enough to be our camera man or editor and I'm not thrilled being in front of a camera so Libby and Shannon are reallyyyyy important to our team but I find myself to be a pretty good planner and organizer so I'm excited to see how producing goes for me! We'll see from here..

Canon Vixa HG-10

I have only used the Canon Vixa HG-10 once, but so far I love this camera! It was easy to shoot footage with and so far has been very easy to upload onto the computer for editing. It is nice how small it is also, makes it much easier to move around and get footage.
